HOW DO YOU LIGHT A Weber CHIMNEY STARTER?

Need help with lighting a Weber Chimney Starter? Take a look at our extensive guide that provides step-by-step instructions to accelerate the charcoal ignition process. It’s incredibly simple to use. You have the option to ignite the coals with either newspaper or Firelighters. Although newspaper is effective, nothing surpasses the efficiency of Firelighters.

Step to Step Instructions

  1. To start, remove the cooking grate from your grill.
  2. Fill the Chimney Starter completely with charcoal (adjust the amount if you have less food to cook).
  3. Place the firelighters on the charcoal grate and ignite them.
  4. Position the Chimney Starter directly on top of the lighter cubes, on the charcoal grate. The cubes will ignite the charcoal and the flames will rise from there. (Depending on the weather, the fuel type and amount used, it should take around 10 to 20 minutes for the coals to be fully ignited and ready to be poured into the grill.)
  5. You will know when they are ready when the top coals have turned slightly gray with ash. Now, pour the coals onto the charcoal grate and arrange them based on whether you plan to cook over direct or indirect heat.

Is a chimney starter worth it?

100%! The speed at which a chimney starter can ignite enough coals approximately 10 to 20 minutes. In comparison to lighter fluid, this technique proves to be quicker, eliminating any unpleasant chemical fragrances that could potentially impact the taste of your food.

Need a smaller chimney starter? We also have the Weber Rapidfire Compact Chimney Starter for smaller BBQs like the Weber Go-anywhere, Smokey Joe & Jumbo Joe.
